Post-war homes on bush blocks, and what that means for your pipes
Mount Colah grew with the post-war suburban boom. Most of its detached family homes date from the 1960s-1980s, with later infill through the 1980s-2000s on sloping bushland lots.
That era of house came with earthenware clay drains, and many laundries now hold the second or third hot water unit since the original was installed.
The bushland setting
The terrain
At around 200 metres elevation, this is one of Sydney's highest suburbs, and those cool ridgetop winters are hard on hot water systems installed decades ago.
What we cover
Whatever the fault, it sits under one of four headings:
- Emergency plumbing Burst pipes, overflowing toilets, no hot water on a freezing morning, gas smells
- General plumbing Tap repairs, bathroom and kitchen work, leak detection, appliance installation
- Drainage Blocked drains, blocked sewers, stormwater, CCTV inspections, pipe relining
- Hot water Repairs, replacements and new installations across gas, electric and instant systems
A drain that blocks every winter on a Foxglove Road or Telopea Street block usually has roots in the clay line. We clear it properly with jetting, then camera-scan it so you can see exactly where the problem lives.

Good questions, straight answers
Questions Mount Colah locals ask us
Do tree roots really cause most blocked drains here?
Yes, the thick tree cover around the national park edge sends roots into older earthenware pipes, so we clear the blockage and camera-scan the line to show you the exact entry points.
Can you replace a hot water system that fails in winter?
We can, and cold ridgetop winters make fast replacement matter, so we quote a fixed price on the spot and carry the common cylinder sizes on the van where possible.
Is there a call out fee for coming to Mount Colah?
No, the call out fee is $0 and you receive a fixed written price before any work begins, so you only ever pay for work you have approved.
Do you work on sloping bush blocks with tricky drainage?
We do, and steep sandstone slopes are routine work for us, from regrading stormwater lines to clearing the silt traps that collect at the low points of long falls.
